ABOUT THE FARM & FARMER

Tirra Estate is located in the San Marcos district in the Tarrazu municipality, it sits at elevations of 1500-1600 MASL. The cherry grown on the Estate is processed by the Coopetarrazu cooperative mill. Tirra Estate is owned by Coopetarrazu and was purchased to conduct coffee research and microlot production. More than 60 percent of the 100ha farm is dedicated to coffee production.

The Tarrazu region is a rural community noted throughout the world for its traditional values and leadership is growing fine coffees. It is one the world's most famous regions for coffee cultivation. Optimum soil and climate, paired with highly skilled and experienced producers, make for ideal cultivating conditions.

Coopetarrazu cooperative is located in the heart of the Tarrazu region and is dedicated to promoting environmentally sustainable farming practices in the community. They have implemented a 'Coffee, Culture, Quality of Life' Sustainability plan to track their environmental impact, implement better practices, and create a culture of environmental respect among members and children. Through this program Coopetarrazu offer free seeds and soil analyses to its members, allowing farmers to undertake reforestation and understand how topography and surrounding ecosystems impact their soil.

Farmers are subsequently able to adjust their practices according to the specific soil needs. The cooperative conduct education programs for community youth, focusing on the tracking of birds and insect populations, and learning about the important role these species play in coffee production and ecosystem maintenance.

Coopetarrazu also support seasonal migrant working by providing on-site housing and organising festivals throughout the year celebrating their indigenous cultural heritage.

Funds raised through the sale of this coffee will be invested in the supply of organic fertilizer and shade trees to member producers.

Place your order, then give us some time to roast and pack for you (usually less than two business days).

Once received ready for pickup notification, come in, check in, and say hi to either Matty or Po.

        Can you grind my coffee?

Sorry, we sell whole beans only.

The reason being is that pre-grinding freshly roasted coffee means that it affects the integrity of the coffee and this makes the coffee expire a lot faster. It's like having artisan bread being pre-sliced or a piece of fruit being left out in the sun!
